This one is for my brother
I have one of the most unique brothers in the history of the world and his current project is called “Holy Sh!t” and you have to write something whitty and intelligent-on the toliet. The tag line is something about spiritual insights while your “making dookie.” I know, he’s a real Hemmingway. But here you go brother.
Have you ever looked at Tiger Woods before? I mean really looked at him? Everytime I see Tiger I see one of the most committed & fully devoted people maybe in the history of this planet. He is completely dialed into what he is doing and he is absoltly intentional about being the best he can possibly be, which we are all seeing is probably the best ever. I once heard a story about Tiger that he got 2nd in a tournament and when everyone was off to go to the awards banquent or dinner he was off to go shoot a bucket of balls and had to be begged and pleased with to leave the driving range and come to the event. That’s the kind of commitment that I want to eveything in my life. That’s really living. I want to be so dialed into living and living out what Gid has called me to do the frivolous things are so distastful to me and the learning and work that needs to be done is in the forefront of my mind.
The Apostle Paul clearly had this same level of commitment. His commitment to God, before and after his conversion were unmatched. Saul was a genius level mind, and he clearly worked extremely hard at pushing the Gospel forward. When that level of genius and work ethic are combined, watch out, and I think that is what you have with Paul and Tiger. Two great minds, and two intense commitment levels. Paul one time preaches the word of the Lord to this town and he gets everyone so worked up that people 90 miles away (as the crow flies) come to the town he was at, push him off a cliff, throw stones at him and leave him for dead. Paul dusts himself off, be proceeds to WALK BACK INTO TOWN to preach some more. This guy is either crazy or fully committed, and maybe a little of both. Who do you know that would take a murder attempt and then walk back to the very people who tried to kill him and try and talk to them about the book of Isaiah? This was clearly a man of intensity and passion, words that we use often, but we don’t really know what they truely look like in practice.
I am no different. I am lazy at times and my passion should be higher at times, but I pray that my God is daily stirring a fire within me that burns for Him and His purposes. If not, then I am living a decaffinated Christian life that I want no part of. If you look around at the people in this world that have brains and talent, I would take someone with passion over all of them, because the person with the fire in his/her chest will be the one on Friday night at 10pm working on the problem, and not the one at the club or in front of the television. If this world had more Tigers and Pauls in it, I really think this would be a much greater world for everyone.
