Do They Know Its Christmas?
It seems like everything right now is much meanier and broken and mess up right now than any other Christmas I’ve been apart of. Maybe I have too narrow of a perspective, but it just seems really cold and brutal out there and the weather is actually not that bad. Not that things aren’t always brutal though, there is always someone hurting, there’s always someone greiving, and there’s always the flipside that someone else is celebrating a something amazing that’s happened in their life.
There is a pervasive idea that our comfort and God’s will are entangled, but I have found those two to be quite opposite. At times like this when things are really messed up I think it’s easier to forget God and what he’s done for us. This is a time to repriortize anything that may have gotten out of sync in our lives. Christmas and New Years is like a reset button on a computer. Every once in a while we have to reboot our lives and try and fix all the stuff that got broken. So in this Christmas and New Years I pray that God speaks to us in new and clear ways about how we need to shift what we’ve been doing and to return to God and his amazing love.
